How I Improved My Skin (in 2 months)

Although posting this kind of thing is incredibly difficult for me, someone else might be able to relate and even start to clear up their skin the same sort of way I did.

As a teenager my skin was alright, no big breakouts, just a few little pimples across my forehead and that was it. It was after I turned 21 that my skin started to get bad - especially on my cheeks. I was expecting it to clear up after a couple of months but it just continued to get worse, there was always at least one area of my face breaking out, as soon as one spot cleared up another would appear, and it was very strange because my skin was still dry. Luckily when I wore makeup it wasn't AS noticeable, and it never really showed up in photos if I did have makeup on, but it was still a pain and it made me horribly afraid to go anywhere without my face fully caked on.

These photos are 2 months apart and I'm not wearing a single bit of makeup in either:

Through trial and error these were the behaviours I adopted and products I used that worked for me. I don't really have the money lying around for microdermabrasion or needling etc, but that is probably something I would like to do in the future just to clear up the few little scars which are left.

BEHAVIOURS These had the most benefit to me and actually cleaned up my skin. 1) Eat healthy and nutritious foods (I will put together a post of good foods for your skin soon). I saw a major improvement in my skin when I drastically reduced the amount of refined sugars/processed foods I was eating, and whenever I did eat something that was highly processed (for a cheat meal or something) my skin would flare up again, so I just decided to pretty much cut this type of food out of my diet entirely. 2) I cut out alcohol, at least, I have for months now anyway, I know a lot of people won't want to do this but it helped me drop weight and my skin improved 3) Drink a lot of water, which is a no-brainer really. 4) Exercise. When you exercise your heart is pumping fresh blood all through your body, including your skin. And you're sweating out the gross stuff from in your skin too, just make sure you wash your face ASAP after exercising.

PRODUCTS It seems that these have started reducing scarring Please note, obviously these products will not suit everyone, this is just what personally suits me 2 x DAILY: I wash my skin with Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser (which my amazing housemate introduced me to), and follow it with the Murad Blemish Control Clarifying Cleanser. I then pat my face dry with a clean towel. After this I apply Effaclar Duo[+] by La Roche-Posay. If it's the morning I just go ahead and do my makeup over the top of that because it is a light moisturiser. If I don't apply the Duo[+] after the Murad products my skin gets way too dry. 2 x A WEEK: I use Aesop's Fabulous Face Cleanser mixed with their Tea Tree Leaf Facial Exfoliant to exfoliate my skin If you feel a blemish about to come through: dab a mixture of tea tree oil and witch hazel onto it every couple of hours if possible, it should help clear it up before it breaks the skin.
