11 Glowing Skin Hacks

Improving my skin may seem like a superficial change, but it had a profound impact on my mental health and self-esteem. It taught me the importance of self-care, self-love, and the power of taking small steps towards change. It reminded me that beauty comes from within, and confidence is the most beautiful thing a person can wear. Today I want to share some of my top tips for improving your complexion.

Use sunscreen

Sunscreen helps improve skin appearance by protecting the skin from harmful UV rays that can cause sunburn, premature ageing, and skin cancer. By preventing these damages, sunscreen can help maintain a smoother, more even complexion and prevent the development of fine lines and wrinkles.

Drink enough water

Drinking enough water is important for maintaining good skin health. When you're dehydrated, your skin can become dry, flaky, and more prone to wrinkles. But by drinking enough water, you can keep your skin hydrated and improve its overall appearance. Water helps to flush toxins out of your body, which can help to reduce inflammation and promote healthy skin. Aim for at least 8 glasses of water a day to keep your skin looking its best.

Minimal alcohol and no smoking

Alcohol is bad for your skin because it dehydrates the body, which can cause the skin to become dry and more prone to wrinkles. It can also cause inflammation and redness, and make existing skin conditions, such as acne and rosacea, worse. Additionally, excessive alcohol consumption can damage the liver, which can affect the overall health and appearance of the skin.

Ditch the foundation

Wearing foundation can clog your pores and cause breakouts. By ditching the foundation and focusing on skincare, you can achieve a natural, glowing complexion. If you feel like you need some coverage, consider using a tinted moisturizer or BB cream instead.

By not wearing makeup, you're also allowing your skin to breathe and recover from any potential irritation or inflammation caused by makeup products. This can lead to a more even skin tone and texture, and less frequent breakouts.

Add more colour to your diet

Micronutrients, such as vitamins and minerals, play an important role in maintaining healthy skin. Vitamin C, for example, is essential for collagen production, which helps keep skin firm and elastic. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals. Zinc is important for wound healing and can help reduce inflammation and acne. Other micronutrients like vitamin A, biotin, and niacin can also help improve skin appearance by promoting healthy cell growth and reducing inflammation. Incorporating a variety of nutrient-rich foods into your diet can help ensure that you're getting all the micronutrients you need for healthy, glowing skin.

No fried foods

Fried foods are bad for your skin because they are high in unhealthy fats that can cause acne inflammation in the body. This inflammation can lead to a breakdown of collagen and elastin in the skin, which can cause premature aging, wrinkles, and a dull complexion. Additionally, eating a diet high in fried foods has been linked to an increase in acne and other skin conditions. By reducing or eliminating fried foods from your diet, you can help keep your skin looking healthy and glowing.

Reduce or remove sugar

Sugar can have negative effects on your skin because it contributes to the breakdown of collagen and elastin, which are essential for healthy, youthful-looking skin. When you consume sugar, it triggers a process called glycation, which causes sugar molecules to bind to proteins in the body, including collagen and elastin. This binding process can make these proteins stiff and less flexible, which can contribute to wrinkles, sagging skin, and a dull complexion. Additionally, sugar can also cause inflammation in the body, which can exacerbate skin conditions like acne and rosacea. By reducing your sugar intake, you may be able to help keep your skin looking healthy and glowing.

Get facials

I like to get a facial treatment every 4-6 weeks to keep my skin in good condition. This also means my skin barrier is looked after properly and I can seek a professional’s opinion on which are the optimal skincare products to suit my skin at the time. My top treatments are Fire & Ice Facials, Hydrafacials, and TCA Peels.

Get enough sleep

Getting enough sleep is important for maintaining healthy skin. When you're well rested, your skin is able to repair itself and produce collagen, which helps keep skin firm and elastic. On the other hand, lack of sleep can cause the body to produce more cortisol, a stress hormone that can break down collagen and lead to wrinkles and sagging skin. Additionally, when you don't get enough sleep, your skin can become dull and pale, and you may develop dark circles or bags under your eyes. By getting enough sleep, you can help your skin look and feel its best.

Silk pillow cases

Silk pillowcases can help improve skin health by reducing friction between the skin and the pillowcase. This can help prevent wrinkles and fine lines, as well as keep skin more hydrated. Additionally, silk pillowcases can help reduce hair breakage and tangles, which can help keep hair looking healthy and shiny.

Avoid excessive sun exposure to face

Sun exposure can be bad for your facial skin because harmful UV rays can cause sunburn, premature aging, and skin cancer. Sunburn can cause the skin to become red, painful, and sensitive to the touch. Over time, frequent sun exposure can also lead to the development of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots. Additionally, UV rays can damage the DNA in skin cells, which can increase the risk of skin cancer. It's important to protect your facial skin from the sun by wearing sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses, and by avoiding excessive sun exposure, especially during peak hours.
