5 Keys to Master Your Mindset

There’s one thing that I tell my 1-on-1 coaching clients all the time, and that’s what and how you think has huge potential to result in your success or failure.

If your mindset isn’t in a good place, you likely aren’t either. Despite whether you're working out and tracking your nutrition day in day out, you are only ever as healthy as your mindset is. Your mental state has a direct impact on your overall health, behaviours and your ability to achieve physical results.

I think so often we see advice on the internet that’s like

  • Want to lose weight? Eat less and move more

  • Want to grow a booty? Lift weights and eat more

  • Want to feel better? Just eat better

And while I think each of these points have some merit, they don’t directly address our ABILITY to follow through with these behaviours.

No matter where you are in your health journey, you can start to grow a positive mindset and eventually learn to see everything with more hope and an action-based view.

We all know that what you focus on and think about expands. Getting a grip on your mindset means you can combat your fear, take massive action, and achieve the success, habits, and lifestyle you want.

Here are some of my top tips to tackle your mindset:

#1 Enhance Your Environment

Changing your physical environment is a fantastic way to reset your mindset. Move around, shift your furniture to a new spot. Sit in a different spot today. Play music. I’d recommend something that makes you happy and keeps you motivated.

#2 Reframe Your Focus - DAILY

Not just once. Not just at the start of the year or the start of the month. But remember what you’re working toward each day. I like to do this with some little journal prompts and by doing a short (3-10 minute) meditation in the morning. Years ago I used to struggle to meditate, but since practising it every day it’s honestly become one of the most beneficial parts of my morning routine for not only my mindset, but also my mental health.

This mini mindset course will help you break out of negative thought patterns, boost your confidence and improve your emotional intelligence so that you can stay focused and motivated to pursue your dreams and goals.

Help yourself level up in just 5 to 10 minutes a day.

#3 Perfection is overrated

By understanding our likes, our dislikes, and knowing what does and does not work for us ultimately allows us to make more effective and well-informed decisions about how we want to construct our life.

The idea of perfection also gives room for huge chasms of failure. I’m sure you’ve experienced it before where you eat ‘perfect’ for a week, and all the foods you’re including you actually don’t like, so it feels difficult to maintain.

It’s time to allow yourself to be bad at things again. We didn’t get up and start walking immediately, so give yourself the grace to fail and be bad at something. Unfortunately, in an age where most people only want to share their highlight reel, you’re constantly comparing your level 1 with someone else’s level 100.

#4 Say it better

It’s time to adjust how you speak to yourself. Instead of saying to yourself over and over again that you “can’t do this”, “don’t have time”, or “simply can’t stick to your plan” instead, reassure yourself that you can do it, that you’re capable, and that all that’s required is trying and doing your best.

While we can’t control a great deal, we can control how we choose to talk to ourselves each day.

#5 Redefine what success looks like to you

Now I want to ask you what would happen if you didn't follow the success path that other people have purposely or accidentally pushed on to you? Where would you be? And would you be happy? And when we can start to answer this question, and we can start to visualise what sort of life we want for ourselves, we are able to truly start constructing our vision, which will help us build habits and the actions that we need to get there.

By making sure we’re doing what aligns with our purpose and values, it’s easier master our mindset. Don’t force yourself to be someone you’re not.

When was the last time that you felt successful and proud of something you did? Take a moment… I want you to sit there and think back to when you felt this. What are you doing? And how can you add more of this experience into your life? It's no small thing to actually enjoy your actions each day.

What steps will you take to improve your mindset today?
